The latest aspect

In St. Cross chapel we can distinguish the latest aspect - that is the latest generation contribution: the font from 1981. it is made of bright marble, it forms a whole with a slender paschal candlestick which is situated right next to. The font in a sense complemented and enriched liturgical décor of the church.
There was not a font in the abbacy because it was a distinctive feature for Cathedral and parish churches where it used to be located in the middle of the church, next to the entrance. It was a claim to fame and was worshipped. Here, water was blessed at Easter, the processions went around it and sang Vidi aquam and, of course, this was a place of baptism.
Tyniec font brings back memories of the past. It appeared here when the church was the Cathedral of Tyniec diocese in 1821-1826. Register books inform us that a Bishop Grzegorz Tomasz Ziegler married a couple in the Cathedral. Little can we read about baptism in the Cathedral because there was a parish church close by. Not until 1833 was it pulled down having transferred the parish laws to post Benedictine church; here children from Tyniec were baptized.
The altar, located in the middle of the church, has its own history. When Benedictines came back to Tyniec from Belgium they brought enthusiasm and ideas of the so called liturgical movement which the whole pastoral work wanted to be based on sacraments with the Holy Mass to lead the way, in the year of the church, in a word - on liturgy. It was called for bringing the Holy Mass to all the people and the return to old, time-honoured form among others celebrating the Holy Mass as it was said - 'face to people'. Back then in 1939 it was something unusual, and even it met with strong opposition. Nevertheless, since that time Tyniec altar has been located in the middle of the church announcing the future changes. For the time being it was temporary, made of wood. The new altar made of bright marble was placed on the occasion of the 1500th anniversary of St. Benedict's birth. The dates 480-1980, on the side of the altar, indicate this celebration. On the eastern side an artist put a cross - St. Benedict's cross - as the letters in the corners inform us about it. The western side is ornamented with the Lamb from the Revelation of St. John the Divine, reminding of the everyday offering.
The cross situated next to the altar is the work and a gift of Jerzy Nowosielski.
One of the latest aspects in church arrangement is the Way of the Cross on the pillars and the organs on the choir above the entrance. The company 'Bracia Biernaccy' ('Biernaccy Brothers') was commissioned to create the organs in Cracow (1956). The instrument has 35 voices and 3 keyboards. The main task of the organs in the church is accompaniament during the liturgy. Moreover, Cracow Philharmonic organizes concerts in Tyniec with outstanding musicians.
